Javantea's Fate

Nanotechnologists
Nanotechnology is the science of manipulating atoms. In the year 2014, Javantea is a nanotechnologist among other things. In "Javantea's Fate", the world is in a pre-nano state. This means that the development of nano-scale assemblers has not been reached. However, the world is on the brink of nanotechnology. As conditions on Earth worsen, people are hoping that a development might fix everything. However, the last step hasn't happened. Pre-nanotech super devices exist, but they are not much more than a helpful tool. Nanotechnology promises to provide a huge change in the world that might help or hurt everything a great deal. It is generally assumed by optimistic scientists that nanotechnology will bring efficient use and reuse of raw materials as well as dynamic structures that will improve functionality of materials. UW's Center for Nanotechnology has a good brief description of what nanotech research is about (I love plugging my university). Nanotechnologists in 2014 under UN control suffer greatly with the implemented scientific oppression which is very common under UN control. All nanotechnology research is illegal in 2014 except for military use. No scientist in their right mind would use such a powerful technology as nanotechnology for military use. But even in 2001, this is common. The United States Navy is working on nanotechnology research today. We can only hope that nanotechnology will be developed by anyone except a military.

Warehouse Grunts
Warehouse Grunts like those seen in Scene 1 are the product of a serious misappropriation of control, freedom, and resources by the United Nations one world government. In the year 2014, the UN has become a one world government and has taken control of much of the world. The inefficiency of this system forces large misappropriations. So these grunts fill in the cracks where control meets freedom, selling assault rifles and illegal sawed-off shotguns to the highest bidder. Capitalism forces this black market, while the totalitarian government tries to ban it. Simply put, if owning a gun is made criminal, only criminals will have guns. It really just makes weak and older people defenseless, while it makes strong people more powerful. People who still want guns will just be criminals. The only powerful people are criminals and people who practice boxing/martial arts. That makes the Warehouse Grunts and Javantea at opposite ends of the power threshold. Really, the Warehouse Grunts are doing a job for same reason any business-person does his job. But Javantea isn't beating up car salespeople, even though he should be. Car salespeople sell products that destroy the environment while gun dealers sell products that murder innocent people. So the reason why Javantea picks on the warehouse grunts is because of the immediate harm they cause.
The Warehouse Grunt's Leader is wearing an set of modified AltSci Tactical Goggles. It's ironic that a person wearing the glasses is beaten up by the owner of the company that developed it. The formerly commercially available AltSci Tactical Goggles have infrared, sonic, ultrasonic, and accelerometer sensors for a dead reckoning system. The goggles display the information on the heads up display. AltSci Tactical Goggles are easily modifiable to fit the person's needs. A driver can configure the goggles to detect cars (using engine heat), pedestrians (using body heat), and the roadway (using very sensitive ultrasonic rangefinders) to tell the driver exactly what to do. The goggles also amplify any sound to the person's preference. Loud sounds will sound soft and inaudible sounds will be heard at high volume. The system is so precise that it can triangulate a small sound from far away and put it on the heads up radar to the exact inch. It also remembers the sound so that the person can relisten to it and find exactly where it came from. Not only are these goggles extremely useful, they are illegal. Due to the UN's strict consumer laws, owning a pair requires a government license that only government agents can get. That doesn't keep the black market from selling them in high volume.
Since the Warehouse Grunts will be arrested under the dome, they will be tried by their peers in the anarchy and sentenced to education or community service. No crime under the dome is punished by prison time because there is no prison. Of course, the criminals themselves are not safe from judgement from other people, themselves, or their God. There is a long and detailed philosophy behind this. If you'd like to see it, I'll put it up. E-mail me to see it.
And the answer to every capitalist's question: yes, non-criminals as well as criminals have the privilege of going to the university for free. No taxes are collected, so the university is maintained voluntarily by the community, and thus is free to those who wish to expand their minds. Even though this may sound like it would dissuade good professors, it actually benefits them greatly to live in a community free from scientific oppression which is very common under UN control. See above.
